17 August 2020
The Nautilus Welfare Fund (NWF) charity has received a welcome £5,000 grant from the Merchant Navy Welfare Board (MNWB) to help with the cost of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at its dedicated retirement complex in Wallasey.
Residents and staff at Nautilus Mariners' Park remain covid-free, as it readies itself for the green light to reopen to visitors.
Nautilus welfare fund manager Mick Howarth said: 'We believe we have now turned a corner, as residents and staff have remained covid-free since May thanks to the vigilance of all staff at the park implementing our stringent hygiene protocols. The PPE funding will be essential to mitigate further against infection when we reopen and is very welcome.'
A new visitor's policy has been drafted in readiness for the much awaited green light from the local director of public health that will signal visits within Care Homes can re-start.
To manage the risk, only one relative of each resident will be allowed to visit on a consistent basis. The Hair Salon in the Trinity House Hub will be put to new use as a visiting room, to separate visitors from the body of the Care Home.
'The rate of Covid-19 on the Wirral is 5.6 per 100,000, at the lower end of the spectrum nationally, so we anticipate visiting being allowed soon,' Mr Howarth said.
